Welcome to The Magpie’s Guide to Teaching English in South Korea
If you’re here, there’s a good chance you’re thinking about teaching English in South Korea… or maybe you’re already knee-deep in research, binge-watching YouTube videos, and stuck in that slightly terrifying “how do I even start?” phase. Either way, welcome!
I’m Cristina, and I’ve been living, teaching, and trying not to embarrass myself in South Korea for the past seven years. Along the way, I survived awkward interviews, tough classroom moments, learned exactly what not to say during parent conferences, and discovered a few secrets about life in Korea that no guidebook will ever tell you.
This blog is my little “Magpie Guide” for fellow adventurers. Why magpies? Not only are they cute, but in Korean culture they’re a symbol of luck. My hope is that this guide brings you a little luck, plenty of laughs, and practical advice to help you navigate your own journey teaching abroad.
Inside, you’ll find stories that are comical, tips and tricks, and resources to make your life in Korea smoother. Whether you’re a total newbie or someone planning your life in Seoul down to the subway lines, this blog is your companion for surviving, thriving, and maybe even loving your teaching adventure.
Ready to jump in? Let’s get you on the path to teaching in South Korea, one awkward, exciting, and unforgettable moment at a time.
Happy exploring!
